Does anyone have any advice for pest prevention?

I planted some gourd plants and they were doing pretty well, but one day every leaf and shoot was gone. I did a stake-out and found out that it was an iguana. Is there something that they don't like to eat like pepper spray or something?

i'd try some dr. bronner's peppermint.. take about a cap-full and dilute it in a spray bottle of water... then just spray the plant and area.. it's harmless to the plant and should keep the iguana at a distance... you can also try sprinkling cayenne pepper around the plant... good luck!
