After promoting the GuerrillaGardening message to a housing association community development officer, meeting with him and showing him what I have done and the plans I have for the future in my area. I have gained his support and hopefully funding. Also managed to gain support from a horticulture tutor at a college that would like to donate plants to my cause. Help is out there, believe in yourself and believe in the cause.  Grin

don't expect to much from people with power. Still no funding from the development officer i met a couple of months ago. They are full of praise and make promises but do not show up with the goods. I have chased it up with a housing officer (I wont hold my breath)!  Never mind. I am still fighting the cause with plants given to me by neighbours and from a horticultural college where I now attend.

So happy the summer is here and I am pleased with what I have done so far. Next mission has been planned and my solo effort begins tommorrow  Grin

I have planted a few sunflowers and sweetcorns at a few sites? not run down areas at all in fact they are in new housing developments, but in roundabouts! One is full of weeds and no one will ever notice, until it is massive! The other is clear view of a busy road and we got some very strange looks from passers by? saw some guy come round with a  strimmer today, hope he didn't destroy it? will get pics up soon!

Beware contractors with strimmers and long lasting weed killer!
A strange look can sometimes end up a positive. I was donated several trays of marigolds and poppys by someone after I noticed him giving me strange looks from accross the street.

I had some time off today, it was a nice day, so I took a chance to garden. I spent all afternoon, on my own creating a semi circular flower bed  behind a dilapidated wooden chair by the roadside opposite a block of flats. I had to cut out some turf and dispose of it in a wheelie bin, after knocking the soil off. I Forked out stones and prepared it for planting. I was in a world of my own adding marigolds around the new flower bed, when i was approached by a middle aged woman and her son. He ranted and raved at how I was making a mess and people aren't happy. This caused an argument as he began pulling out a plant with threats of calling the Police. You cant seem to please everybody.
Now with hindsite, I wish I had done it much later in the cover of darkness and undercover. As it is dark now, I am going back to water  and maybe add a few more plants Smiley

job completed. A Cordyline in the middle of the semi circle, surrounded by Rudbeckia, labilia and marigolds. The plants are still there, haven't been touched by irate negative bores. I water them daily and have not had any intervention by anymore busybodies.  Grin

The cordyline was ripped out twice by philistines and has finally gone to the garden in the sky. Two rudbeckia have been stolen, so I have replaced the plants with violas and pansys and a Buddlia davidii. What else can you do but replace the plants that have been wastefully destroyed by heathens?

Hello,

I volunteer at the National Trust and I'm sure I can get support from people there, and I could potentially get endorsement! But firstly (I know this isn't the point to guerrilla gardening) I would like to get some permission from someone in the Council initially? Maybe make a community garden As I don't want to cause more harm than good. Do you know who to go to?

I've spoken to a lot of people who are interested! I think we'll all need to donate seeds, time and potentially wine!!

Take care,

Rachel

Hey everyone! I'm studying at the University of Birmingham, currently working on a documentary on guerrilla gardening for my masters, but I live in Swindon (Lydiard Millicent as a matter of fact). If anyone would be willing to talk to me about guerrilla gardening... more specifically be willing to be interviewed on film, I'd love to hear from you! The more people I can speak to, the better.

E-mail: nxk642@bham.ac.uk

Cheers!!!

hello Richard and all gardeners everywhere!

I am still around, still weeding and planting, taking care of the patches of land I have managed to brighten up. Winter violas are blooming. A new stretch of unloved green space enclosed with a wall now has a row of wallflowers, alongside  herbaceous borders that are now flourishing. The council workers have not decimated my work with weed killer, but do not mow the grass near the beds now, leaving me to clip the grass with hand shears, which is annoying, but you cant win them all.
