You may know already about London's secret woodland, but just in case you didn't, well here's more.

http://www.elephantandcastleurbanforest.com

It's a dense woodland of mature trees planted in the early 1970s hidden behind the great concrete slabs of the ominous looking Heygate Estate. I've got involved with trying to save this place and get more people in there to enjoy it. There's guerrilla gardening going on too, allotments that began with informal permission, had it taken away (by Southwark Council), had it given back and are poised to have it taken away again! Check out more about the forest here...

And make a note in your diaries for a big feast there on August 13th and a smaller one, after our lavender harvest (see other post) on August 6th. The Feast Facebook event is here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=179803608739453

Activity in the forest has quietened down for the winter, but it's still open, beautiful, inspiring and there's gardening going on there. In fact I just directed 8000 unwanted plants there which had been adorning the scaffolding outside the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square... and are now being distributed to guerrilla gardens and other community gardening projects from the heart of this amazing place.
