Any fellow gardeners in the Stoke-on-Trent area?

I haven't been able to do much guerrilla activity as of yet, other than some discreet seed sprinkling near my house. I live quite a way out of the main city, out in the countryside, so there's not much need for gardening as Nature is doing quite a good job!

However I am eyeballing my workplace in Stafford, there are a lot of empty little borders around the factory and offices, which would probably benefit from some pansies over the winter....and I have some Welsh poppy and Aquilegia vulgaris seeds.....hmmmmm  Wink

If there's anyone else in the area, post up on here and maybe we can organise a little guerrilla activity in Stoke, Stafford or nearby!

Oh, but there is...  Grin

Much to their credit, the city council has decided to create a green gateway to Burslem, which is where I live.

But I'm sure there are many other allotments-at-large that would benefit from a seed bomb or two!

I propose virginia creeper for all the CCTV camera poles and a nice carbon micro-sink in the middle of each Smallthorne roundabout!

Well I'm in Stafford, I'm a gardener and I take an interest in the urban environment. Bearing in mind that folks are less tolerant of slightly unusual activity in small towns like this than in the smoke - what did you have in mind?

I'm in Newcastle and have been emailing the council about wild flower seeding areas that don't necessarily lend themselves to formal planting, but didn't get very far with them.  Saw some wonderful urban gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show last year, where the project has been to improve impoverished estates.

Hi There,

Not sure who is still active or interested in Guerrilla gardening in Staffordshire but if you are interested in some projects then just drop me a line. I'm a professional horticulturist & florist and i've been active in small projects for the last five years. Planning some larger scale ones in the not to distance future. So if theres anyone out there whos up to make Stoke and its surrounding areas a little greener just drop me a line.

All the best,

mark the gardener.

I'm new here, but I'd be interested in taking part in something!
I live slightly north of the city, but happy to travel all over!

Hi there!
I'm a new member of this forum and new to guerrilla gardening (despite having been interested for well over a year).

Come September I will be at university in North Staffordshire and am VERY interested in joining a gardening faction! : )

welcome!  to the least active group of ggardeners anywhere it appears  Smiley  maybe it just means we live in quite a pretty place !
have spent the last couple of years regularily infesting the area around the new road by asda in wolstanton with meadow cranesbill , my favourite colourful "weed" it will take a few years to get established but will never go away - colour where there would just be grass/scrub.
I chucked some seeds by the concrete steps behind asda about 20 years ago and it looks pretty good in summer , so it is worth the effort ,i prefer the long term plan .
its a wee bit late in the season now for much but i"ll b back in the spring , ive got the luxury of a yard where i can get plants  going in yog pots - it seems the best way to go if you can ,seems  more efficient .
Also tried to get sunflowers etc going around n/c with some success till the councils very efficient weed killing teams put paid to that ......oh well.
I`m trying to plant stuff on the high up slopes that will cascade down eventually .
all the best   bB7   Cool

Hi Bill. 20 years wait for results is dedication in anyones book. I suppose you are right the weather is definately against it. I will have a bit of a look around and see if there is anywhere I can get ready for spring :-)

I've just joined up too. I live north of Stoke, where there's a  'planting' group that's much too formal and organised to appeal to me. Guerilla gardening more 'up my street'! Anyone else around to join up with, or am I behind enemy lines on my own? I've scattered various kinds of wild flower seeds around for the last couple of years that - so far - have had mixed results

Hi everyone, it's nice to see there are a few Staffs people here who are interested in guerilla gardening.
I'm an artist involved with a creative project called Growing Hearts and Minds which is all about using the outdoors to promote well being. There are all sorts of events happening this year in and around Northwood Park in Hanley, more can be seen on the website growingheartsandminds.org
BUT importantly this week there is going to be a bulb planting session in Northwood Park, it's Tuesday 13th September 2pm-3pm. Meet by the statue at the top of the park whose entrances are on Northwood Park Road, Baskerville Road, Eaton Street and Eastbourne Road in Northwood, Hanley.
We'll have bulbs and a few trowels, but if you do have a metal hand trowel please bring it along.
It would be really great if you can make it, it's good to meet new people, make contacts for future guerilla digs and also to try and add some colour to our parks that are totally bereft of flowering plants in this city.
Thanks folks, hope to see you there.

Hi there! I've just been registered. I'm based just outside Stoke-on-Trent so it'll be interesting to see who else is involved. I've got a couple of plans in mind and will share them soon!  Grin
