this street already has a lot of tree pit gardens but the best spot in front of a cafe was still bare. i actually applied for some funding for this which was the only way to realize it as the soil in this pitiable tree pit was close to not being soil anymore and i am flat broke.

so - guerrilla gardening or not?
its public ground, the city likes us doing it and reimburses us some of the costs (only in certain streets though!!!). they put up some rules, but we dont follow them. another tree pit garden that i did 2 days before is not on one of the supported streets, so i asked my friends for small donations to buy the dirt. i didnt ask or tell anyone else about this, it is basically exactly the same thing... in the end it doesnt matter, i guess. to quote aresh javadi from moregardens!coalition nyc:

"We should be doing that.  And you know, if you wanna call it guerrilla gardening – great.  If you wanna call it everyday gardening or kids gardening or lets heal the earth gardening – that’s what we need to be doing, we should be out there and doing it as if its our right and it is our right."
