are there alternative seed bomb recipes/ingredients?
« on: May 10, 2010, 08:45:40 PM »
I have tried my darnedest, but am not able to get my hands on red clay powder.  Yes, I know you can order online but I'd rather not pay such "heavy" shipping charges.

I've read the benefits of using clay in the mix.  However, there must be other ways of making seed bombs......  ??

Chucking a ball of wet soil/compost/seed will simply smash apart.  The thought of throwing a rubber full is repugnant to me.  Just what everyone needs:  the sight of a vacant plot of "used" condoms!

Has anyone had success with some other recipe/method?

I have the perfect spot in mind for sunflowers!

Apparently, there is cat sand made of 100% clay! You could look into that.

Peacenique and myself have been discussing the idea of using peat type pots as a basis for a new type of seedbomb for people  in clay free areas , the small plug type pots made from fibre type degradeable material filled with compost and seed and tied up with fine twine is the idea.
i think  the chances of success may be increased if these were used in the autumn as they may be more prone to drying out and may appreciate the extra moisture then.
This might be a breakthrough idea !
(patents pending  ;)
