It seems like there are a few of us in the area, but these boards don't seem very active at all and I'm wondering if there is a better way to get (and keep) in touch.

Meetup.com charges a small (monthly) fee for organizing a group, which I can't front but would be willing to pay into. Yahoo! Groups is also an option; they're free and groups are easy to set up and moderate. These options may also give us more publicity and encourage other gardeners to come out of the woodwork; this site is great but it took me quite a few gardening searches to stumble across it, and I suspect a lot of otherwise willing participants simply haven't heard of the concept yet!

This isn't something that has to happen immediately; if we are already inactive, another group won't do us much good. I have hope this summer will be fruitful for us though, and I thought I'd bring up a more public-oriented meeting place as a way to grow the Pittsburgh GG group into a city-wide movement!

If somebody wants to organize something, I suggest that they:

Ask whoever runs the meetup group called "The Pittsburgh Garden Experiment!" if they would be willing to post an announcement for it. (and post back here who you contacted and if they were supportive)

Post the same announcement to the free alternative to meetup, meetin.org.

Always include a link to the thread on this board where the event is discussed, so that people will have less difficulty finding stuff here in the future.

All good advice! Smiley Thanks for the contributions - hopefully we get enough interest that this doesn't fall on its face. I see no reason to start a group for one or two active members... :p
