Didn't realise it had been so long since I'd posted on here...
Strap cut and tree loosened.

then someone cut the strap...

so I did this with a bit of pipe insulation...

My dad bought a house, and someone who lived there before him was obviously an ignorant bastard... Washing line tied around a weeping birch, many years ago.

While I had the chance, i.e. free woodchip and the wheelbarrow in the same place at the same time, I woodchipped the trees that I'd been looking at before.....

I rounded this corner and saw the tree, then I saw the carpenter in the white van behind, taking his lunch break, so I went over and borrowed his claw hammer for two mins. Never let an opportunity to release a tree pass you by....carpe diem...and all that...

last week.

last week...five mins later...

Somehow, I don't have a partner photo for this one. It could be one of the other trees from a different angle and I can't recognise it. I'll go down that street and investigate one day soon...

Victoria, London.

Rochester Row, at the junction of Vincent Square.

In fact, around that corner is the RHS Lindley Library which has been closed recently but according to their website is to reopen on July 2nd 2012.  Do you think someone could go in and ask them to pop out and release this tree? I'd have done so, but I'd no tools with me......
Failing that, are there any London based GGers that could release this poor tree???

It's wheelchair accessible, at least!!

How it should be done. Best practice, I'd say.  (I walked by this tree about 4 times over the weekend, as it transpired...)

It's been a while, but I've had my eye on this one for a while. I pass it quite a lot, so it's 'always on my mind', so to speak...

then, last Friday I had the chance to borrow a wire cutter and so I did!!!
Here is the result.

Oh, this is the tree from Reply 33 (and subsequent Replies...)

I unwrapped the wire from  this tree. I'll go back  with a wire cutters and remove it next Sunday.  I think I'll leave the 7 - 9 cm of wire buried in the trunk. seems less cruel than to damage the bark, possibly, by tearing  it out completely....

Well, here we are a week later, as promised....

Tree, released!

I left the bit of wire buried inside, deep inside the trunk. I thought it would do more damage to retrieve it than leave it in....

Sad news.

I/We failed in the bid to save this tree. Regular viewers may remember from Reply 33 and subsequent replies.  It had started to lean precipitously in  recent weeks. Then, the other day I went by and I was met by this sight...

pity...that ends that chapter.....

I saw this poor strangled thing on the north side recently, so I brought my tools with me and released it...

ugh!!!

Worked at it for a few minutes till this stage...

Then I pulled and tugged a bit more....

Eventually, got it....

So, success!
