[I don't want to waste your time, so just to let you know, the gist of this message is a petition to stop developers cutting down mature trees to make way for buildings.  If you are interested, read on.]

Sorry to bother you all, but this is a Forest Hill issue dear to my heart.  The land lord of my friend?s flat is trying to sell off the garden to developers, in order for [yet more] luxury apartments to be built.  The garden contains many mature trees and much vegetation, all wonderful as feeding, nesting and roosting sites for wildlife.

As compensation for cutting down the trees, and the loss of this wildlife habitat, the developers propose to.....put up some bird boxes on the side of their luxury building!
The site is on the highest part of the area of Forest Hill, not far from Honor Oak, and has views across London.  One of the joys of living in Forest Hill is its green-ness due to the mature trees that make the area cooler and quieter than much of the rest of the city.  And really, do we need any more luxury apartments in this city?  Or do we need trees?

Please don?t let them take the Forest out of Forest Hill!

Please sign and forward this petition to everyone you know.

To sign the petition, cut and paste this link into your browser, and go to the bottom of the page and on the left hand side there is a thing to click to ?Sign this petition?.  You don?t have to give many details about yourself, but if you are living in the area, it helps the campaign if you make it visible that you live in Forest Hill or environs.

Thanks for your time.

It might actually be worth checking with the Aboricultural Officer at the local Parks and Gardens Department to see if any of the trees are officially protected (I think the phrase is "preservation order" but I could be wrong.

Hi
I think they would have to answer a few questions first, and they would have to check whether the trees have a preservation order on them. Especially if they are a native tree.
I really hope this DOES NOT happen as these are also vital for oxygen for our polluted cities.
