I see that all the posts are old...but I'm really interested in beautifying some places around Milwaukee. I live near the Third Ward, so if you see any strange plant activity in that area, it means I got my act together. Anyone else?

Yeah I'm still active on here.  My team of 4 ended up completing 2 projects last year and have started to get the team together for this year.  I am currently dividing my plants in my gardens to get ready for using them in future GG projects.  My team likes to stick to perennials because they come back and we try to focus on Wisconsin native plants if possible.  What about you?  I see you are in the third ward?  Have you done any projects?  Do you have any projects scoped out?  Do you have a yard with plants to use?

I'm trying to grow some veggies and flowers in my yard...not much luck so far, they keep getting dug up and eaten by squirrels. I live really close to Mitchell Park, which right now is full of trash and pretty unsightly, so I think I'll concentrate on that for now.

There is a building in the park that claims to have a community garden, but all I can see is some crappy sad-looking rhubarb. It could definitely use some fixing up, and some variety. Sadly I don't think many people in this neighborhood will appreciate the effort, they all seem to flock to pick n save for frozen pizza and jugs of high fructose corn syrup "orange drink", and very little produce. But if nothing else, I'll grow some zucchini or something there for my veg-loving family! Smiley

That's the problem with projects in the ghetto, people don't seem to care and they litter everything they can.  What are your ideas for the Mitchell park garden?  Flowers that look nice or veggies for people to eat?   Where is the building?  I'm zooming in with google maps and see the domes, the kiddie pool pavilion,  a building by the pond and a little garden thing by the pond.  Overall it looks like a beautiful park layout but I always thought to myself, the domes are really nice but all the gardening and landscaping outside is horrible.  Let's gather more details and see what we can do.

There's a garden area in front of a small building near the pond and closed-down kiddie pool. I really have no gardening experience, but I'm trying to learn, so I'd probably start with some hardy and easy-to-keep-alive flowers.

I have big bamboo plants that need room to spread(big area) and full sun for us to plant.  Anyone have a place in Milwaukee area?
