Hornsey Police Station
« on: April 14, 2009, 09:23:51 PM »
Hello,

I am starting an undercover vegetable garden next to Hornsey Police Station. I'm bored of waiting for an allotment, its Spring, and this place is just down my road. Send me an email if you'd like to join me, in the meantime I'll just make a start this Saturday evening!

Hi, i Hornsey police station isn't a million miles from me, and sometimes a windowsill just isn't enough! I've got some veg seeds & fertiliser (organic of course) if you've got some tools?

Hi,

Thanks for your email,

I started tonight - my first evening of Guerilla Gardening...
It felt great - Two men came to use the site, having a drink, and thanked me for taking the litter and weeds away. They don't know who owns it, but were glad I was taking care of it!

The site is COMPLETELY overgrown. Brambles and ivy everywhere. You can't even see the soil. But I reckon there is definitely potential. Its pretty big. I made 3 bags of rubbish and two piles of brambles in couple of hours and you can't even tell I've done anything...

Lets meet on the site one evening after work and see what you think!
I will be clearing more weeds on Monday, Tuesday and Friday evenings this week [7-30-9pm] so send me an email or just drop round. I have no tools yet - will be acquiring some this week, but for now its just gloves and secateurs and bin bags of rubbish...

Second evening of plot tidying last night [Monday 20th].
Swept loads and took some ivy away.

A lady came by and stopped to chat. She thanked me for tidying and said it was meant for everyone but nobody ever uses it.
Two friends came by to see what I was up to - its starting to feel very sociable!

I've come up with an idea for a Kitchen Garden, with herbs [lovage, coriander, chives etc.] that anyone who lives in the area can use.
Inspired by http://www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk/projects

Tonight I'm going back.

Police Station garden going well...

Lots of local support, including donations of tools, sustainence!

I'm meeting a councillor from Haringey at the plot on Wednesday to hopefully negotiate some funding/donations of compost.

Please come to the plot on the 22nd August  - bring a plant!
We didn't get very far in Spring but are gardening all day tomorrow and having an open day on 22nd:

The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the land we have available to us in Hornsey/Crouch End, and generate ideas on how we might use it to its potential.

Hi,

My name is Natan and I'm new to Guerrilla Gardening. I think it's a really exciting idea and am happy to discover it is already being put into practice in my neighbourhood. Is the dig being organised for the 22nd of November at this location (which is ridiculously near my house) part of this guerrilla gardening operation or something separate?

I've noticed there are some calls for digs on Wightman road, so perhaps we could try and work on more than one front? There must be lots more locations and potential gardeners in the Crouch End/Hornsey area.

Cheers

Natan

How did this go last year? Need any help clearing weeds before they take off this Spring?

Hi Beth,

How did the garden go last year?  I'm new to this but would like to assist where possible.  I currently have an abundance of veg seeds that need a new home so more than happy to provide some should more be required this Spring.

Cheers

Oh and I'm quite local to the area (Bounds Green) so would love to get involved and learn from your experience, I'm very keen on starting something similar in my local community (i.e. veg patch/garden) for local residents.  Currently looking for sites.
Cheers
