I just found this website, but one of my New Year's Resolutions was to "Plant flowers around your city *stealthily*."  This community is PERFECT for that!

I have four varieties of sunflowers that I'm sowing in a few days in plugs.  By mid- or late-April (in about four or five weeks, after the threat of frost), I am going to sleuth around DC and plant them.  I live in Mount Pleasant, so I was thinking in this area and down 16th Street--I want a nice view on my bus ride/walk to work, and it'll be easy to keep tabs on the growth of the sunflowers.

There seems to be a lot of interest in the DC area, but has anything happened?  What about last year's meeting in Arlington, are there pictures of what was done?

Does anyone want to plant any other flowers--maybe some runner beans, so they're beautiful and edible?

I'm doing this whether I have help or not, but I figure it would be a fun way to meet new people in the area and do something exciting!

Hit me up,

Ken

I would love to do some guerrilla gardening in DC.  I have a location and I've got at least two other people and could get a few more.  I also have about 20 bags of pebbles that would be perfect for drainage in pots, or flower beds.

Let me know when is good. I'm thinking within the next two weeks.

Let me know.

I'm new to guerrilla gardening. I'm starting sunflower seeds as well.  I've had a lot of success with Mexican Sunflowers in addition to the traditional mammoth sunflower. I like the Mexican Sunflower because they are draught resistant, good for container gardening, and, best of all, attract butterflies. I also collected a lot of moonflower seeds from my plant last year. Moonflowers are vigorous, impressive, and grow on anything.

Anyway. I am starting seeds. I live near the metro and can meet anywhere in the city.

Alrighty!  Sounds Great!

I was thinking more toward mid to late April--by then, the Sunflowers should be recognizable (so people won't just rip them out thinking they're weeds) and any chance of frost is likely to have passed.

Most of them are already germinated and starting to be happy and growing.

Thatagirl and Diego, want to e-mail me?

Anybody guerilla-garden around H street NE near Gallaudet University?
Hit me up at gnarlydork@gmail.com

I am contemplating to guerilla-garden the front yard of my apartment building, but clueless to what are native plants to D.C. so I would like to visit other "guerilla gardens" for inspirations. Maybe later on somebody can join to boost my courage??

That front yard is pretty big and plenty of space to grow anything, yet on one side there are a lot of weeds (that need to be tamed) and another side that is totally dead (I think because of the three trees that took all nutrients in the soil?).   It is definitely shaded-- Maybe partial sun like in afternoon...

I have talked to my husband about just throwing like zillions of seeds and see if any of them settle in and grow into a gorgeous bed of flowers-- is this possible???
