I've got about 100 seedballs left with a guild include native poppies, Indian mustard, radish and wildflower. I've been casting them all over West Oakland with great success.

I've also got 15lbs of powdered clay, loads of dirt and can acquire many more seeds.

Anyone interested in
1. Scouting growing areas in SF
2. Planting Seedballs
3. Harvesting for others

Hit me up and we'll get this movement started ....

Peace,
C

I'm interested!!! I just moved to SF yesterday and have been scouting - also been informed by a friend that there's an empty lot a few blocks over from where I'm living in the Mission. If you wanna come scout with me or let me know what you're up to now, I'd love to help.

Take care,

Claudia

Hello, sounds like you are having a great time. I just would like to please beg you not to plant these anywhere near any habitat example - Emeryville crescent. The radish and mustard are noxious invasive weeds that push out natives and folks working in restoration have a lot of difficulty with them. However, that said, if the plants are isolated from habitat by distance then it wont be any worse than the problem that already exists...

good luck!

I'd love to help  seek possible community garden spots. What do I do?

Hi!  I just discovered guerrillagardening.org yesterday.  I'm in Alameda and have been weeding and planting street-tree strips that the city.  And some neighbors let me help them improve their front yards too.  Many front yards are not well cared for. And the City does an abysmal job of tree care and gardening of public spaces only where merchants matter.

I'd be very keen to collaborate this Fall 2009 to create seed balls and lob them around Alameda and Oakland.

For now and through April and May, I plan to go around trimming ivy off the street trees; many are being choked.  It's a little to late to plant anything where I cannot water; so I'll stick to my block for that, improving the city-owned bits.

New to the forum.

Is anyone planning on heading out in San Francisco in the next week? Or, does anyone want to?
Would love some company with weeding, planting, etc.

I live on 12th Avenue in San Francisco and I have one small tree that was planted on Irving and then dug up.  I think it would survive if I planted it somewhere.  It is a strawberry tree.  I also have (boo hoo) a Hairy Australian Tree Fern which needs a home.  I think its still alive but it looks bad.  The Australians are tough however so I think there is still hope.  I need a wet, dappled lit place (under another tree would be good) and near a pond or creek for this little guy.  He deserves better than I have given it.  Is there anyone out there?   I have been taking California poppy seeds and Sunflower seeds on my runs in the morning and trying to lob them into patches which could sustain them. It helps my attitude no end to see all the gardening that is getting done in San Francisco these days.  Especially the median strips and the planting done at intersections and things like that.  Anything helps you know?  Let me know if anyone can help me with these two little tree guys. Thanks.  PHC
