Hi everybody,

My brother and I have decided to adopt three abandoned concrete planters outside the local shops on Cambridge Heath Road (near intersection with Cephas St). At the moment they are full of litter and weeds, and only a few surviving plants from whenever they were originally planted.

We're thinking of next Thursday night - 18th September - at around 9pm which is after the fish and chip shop closes and things will be a bit quieter although there is always quite a lot of foot traffic between Bethnal Green and Whitechapel.

We have some plants rescued from the 'hospital wing' section of B&Q (patio roses, dahlias and chrysanthanums) and will try to get some soil or compost to add to the planters to give the new plants a chance. If anybody has some more plants that would be fab, but really we would just love some help.

See you next Thursday?

So it's TONIGHT...

In a late revision of the plan, we thought it might be better to meet at 8:30 instead of 9pm - just so we have a bit more time to get it all done. But we'll be delighted to see you whenever you can make it - and we've got a few more friends coming so it should be a nice group of gardeners tonight.

See you soon,

Not to worry - it ended up just being me, my brother and Lita, a guerrilla veteran, but we were very productive and got all three planters weeded, dug over and planted in an hour and a half, fueled by coca-cola donated by one of the local shopkeepers!  The planters look great, especially after Naomi added some mulch this evening - you should swing by and have a look. I'll post some photos soon, when I'm not so overwhelmed by work... Then it will be time to help the next project!

Hey there

I'm a great big newbie and dead keen to get involved in some gardening. What is the situation with the planters on cambridge heath road? They're just down the road from my flat and I think its a shame that that corner is a bit run down. Its a kind of entrance to the area so sould be really striking!

And is there any other stuff going on in Tower Hamlets?
