Hi! Sorry for being gone for so long. I still would love to do some guerrilla gardening in Indianapolis. It is winter now, but we could use the time to plan some locations, figure out what we would like to plant, and save some money to get it together.

If you are still interested I will be checking back regularly for new posts!

Left a message on your other post.  Totally up for a dig.  What do you think of Sunflowers?  Or were you thinking Perennials?

I was thinking anything and everything! Sunflowers sound awesome, always beautiful. Have you done any guerrilla gardening before? I have not.
I'll pay a little more attention while driving around to start scoping some spots. Do you have any in mind?

I have not either.  I was thinking a high profile location.  I currently live on the north side of Indy, but am planning on moving to the south-west side early next year because of my job.  What do you think about a long row of sunflowers just outside the Indianapolis Airport,  just within the INDOT right-of-way?  Or something like that?

I live pretty close to the airport so I'll drive by there this weekend and take a look. It sounds like a good spot from your description. We probably won't be able to do anything until about March or so. Hopefully by then we will have more people involved! How did you hear about guerrilla gardening? I can't even remember now how I stumbled upon this site.

I heard about Guerrilla Gardening from the "How Stuff Works" podcast.  I was totally interested after hearing about it.  I guess you could say that I've been throwing out seed bombs for a while.  I've got a habit of eating an apple while driving home from work.  Well, when I get down to the core.  You know the place were all those seeds are at.  I toss it out the window.  I don't just toss it anywhere though.  I toss in an overgrow area, an area not maintained.  If mother nature does her thing, then hopefully there will be an apple tree there some day.  You never know...

I'm in Bloomington, but I'd come up to help!  The new airport is just asking for it...though I wonder if security will be touchier there than elsewhere....

I haven't been on here since last year and I see that there are a lot of people interested.  Since spring is coming up, it would be the perfect time to start organizing.  If we decide to do guerrilla gardening on a regular basis, I could plant some flowers in a small patch of land that I have and we could use those flowers as part of our supply.  Otherwise I would be willing to seek out donations from local garden stores.

I will check this post over the next month and see if I can get enough people organized.

I have been in contact with a few people who are interested in starting a group up.  We needed to wait until after Spring Break because of schedule conflicts.  I am interested in having an organizational meeting to get things going.  Preferably sooner than later.  Anyone who has interest, please let me know.

Here is my personal e-mail address sroscoe55@gmail.com.  If anyone is interested just send me an e-mail, I check it daily.

Sunflowers sound like a good idea.. I don't know when I'll Be able to do that but, if I can I can get a few friends to help out, the neighborhood we live in isn't very nice. Our park is horrible, It could use a cleaning and some Flowers. I just heard about this Organization from school, and I want to help so I'll keep an eye out for ideas or something

i think Guerrilla Gardening is a great way to improve the community and i am willing to contribute financially to the Indianapolis area and some of the suburbs that need it.  I don't really have a green thumb and gardening isn't really my thing but i figure $20 to $40 every now & then towards materials, plants, etc would help.

saw this site from goodhuman... think this would be an awesome idea- it just so happens i got the newsletter containing this site just when i was looking for a use for my shredded paper which after looking for ideas found that you can make paper mache, which with being in art i dont know why i didnt think of it..but anyways...i think i am going to make some seed bombs with the mache soon then in the spring...launch them...i live on the north east side-near broadripple...and i know in the neighborhood im in there are good sections, more like great sections..then..not so great.scary ones...and i want to try to get those areas..at least a little better..if possible..so...maybe others will be interested in getting together eventually...

awesome..well i have been kinda looking about to see which seeds are the hardiest (since they are going in a seed bomb & are pretty  much on their own) and also perennials (bc i dont want to waste resources that will only be around one season) -- so i have been hap-hazardly scouting them out when i see them..and have been meaning to do some research online...havent gotten that far yet -- hopefully a wildflower of some type -- admittedly i dont have much of a green thumb..but i aspire to eventually..

honestly i dont either. I've never really gardened, but I learned about guerilla gardening through a course i took last semseter and it really interested me. So i've been hunting around trying to find some people who i could do this with... so i definitely need to do some research of my own Smiley

ok..so i bought some perennial seeds @ meijer : columbine & a general perennial mix both were 20 cents ea., i have also been saving glass containers & oatmeal canisters..for storage of anything and the biodeg-egg cartons..for the bom ingred. or for carrying either seedlings or boms --- i also am in the beginning of saving paper towel & tp cardboard tubes..so that if actual seeds are planted or seedlings.. they will either already have them bc they are seedlings (they will be labeled with what they are) or be placed around where ea. seed is planted to mark where they are..so we can tell the difference between weeds and not...since esp. with perennials u cant tell......so thats what im up to....i have been meaning to check out a website about no-cost gardening to get some tips..but havent made it that far...

I'm up for it too.  I'm down in Greenwood.  I was thinking perennial sunflowers would be a good choice in addition to others mentioned.  They spread quite easily.  In particular Helianthus giganteus & Helianthus maximiliani.  They are also available in bulk packs for cheap.

I'll be doing some seed bomb making this weekend for a Spring Equinox gathering that I'm facilitating next week. I'll be passing the bombs around. I'm using all native seeds so as to make things better not worse.

Post the areas you are doing your planting, pics, all the fun!

Hello,

I live across from Brookside Park. I would like to do guerrilla gardening for tomato plants. Daymonds has really cheap starters. I would want to plant a few flats all around downtown.

I can also help with other types of guerrilla gardening all around town. I am a big guy, if your worried about not so great neighborhoods, but I would rather stick to neighborhoods where people actually appreciate our gifts of time and resources.

I really like the idea of sunflowers. They grow quick enough and look pretty enough that they might not get pulled.

I offer free garden tilling for any of my neighbors who live near Brookside Park, or in the Irvington Neighborhood. Just message me at NiceGuyJoell@Gmail.com or 317 - 25O - 757O

Have a good one

Hey guys! Im trying to get some stuff happening in terre haute, in.  I ts aabout an hour and a half drive to terre haute from indy, but if you would like to carpool down here, we are having a seed ball party on June 27th.
We should have enough materials by then, but if you have anything to bring, we will surely take it. We are ordering 110 lbs of potters clay as well as compost and we currently have about 14lbs in seeds.
call 812.234.5668 if you are interested!

For the free tilling...
Kids love all the amazing gardens around town. The gardens are great resources for them.

For Guerrillagardening... Around downtown Mass Ave, Canal, What not, Most starters get picked, some stay they usually stay smaller unless they are near a sprinkler. Usually there is no fruit left as far as peppers, tomatoes, and what not so that can be a good thing.

I don't do flowers. I like to provide edibles for the community.

This year my John Deer Tractor Tiller broke down with electrical problems, then a few weeks back my walk behind tiller's transmission went out. So I really don't have the tools anymore to give free tilling.       ::sad face::
