Title: Guerillagardening meets yarnbombing
Post by: stadtelfin on April 21, 2010, 08:07:43 PM
Hi all together,

when there is no space or possibility to grow a real one - I just place a "substitute" flower - knitted or crocheted - to express my wish for more nature in town (see my pictures encl.)

With greetings from Hamburg, Germany

Hi,
thanks, that you like my flower and for asking about a pattern. But I am sorry, I just tried it out by - hopefully using the right word in english - crochneting cirles? In Germany we call it h?keln. If you like, I send you an original flower :)

I may get a chance to check on it, depending on work commitments/scheduling  ;)

They are really lovely! I hope you are using natural biodegradable materials or you will only end up choking small animals.
Also, don't let the lack of soil stop you building planters to fill with soil.

Just appeared out of woolly air, did they?  :o

I'd say the gods only use cotton and wool for their crocheted flowers.

Ha ha ha, that sounds like a challenge!!!  ;)

I don't know. It's the city's main thoroughfare. With a high footfall. The ground looks very hard. There's always a police presence outside the GPO in the background there.

You're on! I love a guerrilla gardening challenge.  If I don't post the photos soon, it's because they don't have internet access in prison, alright???!!!  :(

KSkittles,

I had a look at tree pits when I was in town recently.  They are one of two things.  Either pale brown concrete or compacted sandy gravel.  I  poked around at them with my keys and they aren't too deep.  The only thing is that it's an are that's got a significant police presence (outside the General Post Office) during the day, and the spectre of alcohol fueled violence at night. Too dangerous for the police to hang around then!!!

However, I replaced the yarnbomb that had gone missing recently,
(http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r270/kuhnriver/WP_002680_zps17d3143c.jpg)

24 hours later, and I thought the yarnbomb had been stolen. So I went back with a replacement....only to realise I'd been looking at the wrong tree....barking up the wrong tree, as it were...d'oh!!!!!

and here, a couple of hours ago...I realise there IS something I can do. I could come back with a pitch fork to improve the drainage. Several of the tree pits are waterlogged....

Well, Lisbon is such a beautiful place, I decided to return and see more of the city and its environs including the UNESCO Heritage listed palace at Sintra.  Of course, I checked on my yarnbomb of 18 months ago and it's still intact, if a little dirty.  So, some Lisboan or Sintran, please bring some thread and cut this one down and give it a run under some hot water with a rub of soap.  Obrigado!

A quick update.  The blue flower by the Jervis Luas station is gone. I took the green one in O'Connell Street in front of the GPO home for a wash. I've yet to bring it back in!

But a big danke to Christine in Zurich for 'putting on the ritz', so to speak!
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/Yarnbombing%20in%20Malmo%20and%20Copenhagen/Foto2_zps348ca9ad.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/Yarnbombing%20in%20Malmo%20and%20Copenhagen/Foto2_zps348ca9ad.jpg.html)

There may be a seedbomb attack in La Swisse later in the year, Rafz 8197 und Zurich 8048, possibly.
