Title: Sunflowers?
Post by: choosinglife on September 07, 2009, 12:20:27 PM
I'm realizing that I have a lot of places around where I'm living that would be awesome to have giant sunflowers growing at. But I was wondering if anyone could let me know a bit of the general knowledge and equipment I would need for planting them.

Do I just throw the seeds wherever I would like? Do I need to grow them individually in pots before I plant them? Do I need to maintain them... if so how often? How much sun/water do they need?

Those are my main questions I guess. I would love to hear any stories or advice before I go for it myself. It will be my first attack.
Thanks.

If you throw them, birds will eat them (often, anyway). Make a hole and plant it, water now and then. Growing them indoors first can give you stronger plants, just as long as they get LOTS of light. Growing then on a balcony is a good option, I did that with half of mine, and grew half in the kitchen. I planted them out when they were about 10-15 cm tall.

Thanks a lot. I'll try and do the same.
