Use every and any opportunity of open ground to do a spot of seed bombing!!!

first you scout a location...

then get a second look, a different perspective...

then double check it...

then go for it...

Hello tampopo,

http://s146.photobucket.com/albums/r270/kuhnriver/Film/?action=view&current=CLIP0289.flv

Is the bridge shown the pedestrian one at Golden bridge? As a child I lived nearby to it till 1948.  Fell into the canal too, aged five!

I'm new to guerilla gardening and seed bombs but have made a start close to our home here in Swords.

hi every one in ireland!!!
well, i did not realise that there is a name for what i have been doing!!! i have been secretly planting trees and flowers for the last few years . however, i have also been heading up our residents association . we have one of those scenarios where the builder has planted dead trees ( or twigs) into concrete,he has left fabulous areas of huge grey walls ....ripe for graffiti . the grey of the walls gives a feeling of lacking in soul. so i came up with the idea that we remove the graffiti and raise money to plant trellis and climbing plants. as a group , we went out and raised the money by knocking on doors and people were astounded at how a grey wall with all its  lack of soul can be transformed into a work  of art !!!
one wall alone has 52 trellis !!!! and i spent every sunday morning last year and through the winter trailing and cutting all the plants. i will send you photos soon when I have figured out how to do that part!!!
we have a huge problem with the neandarthal  *maintenance people" who are essentially people who cut the grass and anything else in their way. they have poisoned wuite a few plants and also a stunning tree that i planted. if there is anyone in the greystones, wicklow , south dublin area who wants to contact me , do let me know . i an be found most mornings weeding and planting in my area!!!

Ask Richard for a template and cut it out.  I pritt sticked it to the back of a Manilla folder and cut it with a sharp knife.

I recommend doing the curved bits first as it gets very loose after a while. Took me an hour.

late one evening last week. It was 10.07 when I'd finished, still bright, but dusk falling, or darkness falling.
It wasn't as clear till the photos showed up with the effect of flash, then you could see the darker compost around the roots. And it's easier to spot the plants.

yeah, I had a pic of the crocosmia mid winter. Don't have it to hand, may edit it in later...

I'd thought I'd planted three clumps. Only two showed, so...   Then, about 3 weeks ago, I discovered one of the clumps had been dug up and left to one side, drying out slowly. So I brought them further away from the scene of the crime and planted them again. I think they'll survive, but may not flower for another couple of months...

here's the other clump, rather small, but in flower. They always get bigger, better and bulkier anyway...

The three marigolds by the bluebells, a little later....

there's a nasturtium in there too....

These two didn't survive long.
the heavy clay soil and full sunny position didn't help.
five or six by the Luas station.

All but one died.  And the last was stolen, you could see the hole left. It was in an open/exposed site and people must've seen me tend to them....

Well, September is upon us and I've been busy over the summer. Don't know if they were ALL planted/sown on May 1st, but are looking good, so far.

July 20th, I think. Seems rather late in the summer....with marigolds, nigella, snap dragons and nasturtiums.

the nigellas are showing nicely

Oh yeah, the evening watering sessions are paying off. Aug 31st

I put out several nasturtium last weekend. A bit of a waste as during the week, while going to work I noticed a certain landscape gardener employee with a large plastic container strapped to his back with a spray gun in his hand.... As soon as I could I went back and rinsed as much as I could, but a lot of the following plants are goners, I'm afraid....

Right, I forgot to post this photo. it dates from May 29th. the margrites are looking even better, though it looks like there's been something climbing up the bank, straight from the water. Judging by the tracks and the width of the flowers that are broken, it must've been an otter.  The bank is quite steep...

And the poisoned calendula and lupins...deffo destroyed. Gone, kaput, disparu.

Anyway, luckily I have a one fifth share in an allotment and there are LOADS of marigolds growing from last year....here....

So I legged it up and dug up a few. Oh yeah, just then a fox jumped over the 4m wall, and scrambled around. Jumped back up and went into the next field, a playing area of a school.  there were  three children wandering about the allotment who'd seen all the action too.  So the four of us wandered over to where it seemed the fox had dropped something. The children had seen it drop something. I was busy with the marigolds.

Anyway, turns out the fox had dropped not one, not two but THREE baby birds.  Dead as dodos of course. I couldn't tell immediately what they were, but realised afterwards they were baby swans. Awww.

Onwards and upwards.....Loaded up with the flowers on the back of the bike...

will plant them out over the Bank Holiday weekend and post the results. ciao for now...

So, I picked a spot. Regular viewers will notice it's (almost) featured in Reply 48, photo 2 in The King and I thread.  The powers that be moved the cycle parking up a few metres, for some reason.

So,with my beautiful bike and my beautiful Bergen 40 (http://www.fjallraven.com/produkte/backpacks-and-bags/bergen-40) in the background...

I spaced them about 50cm apart in groups of five or six along the front, between the bike parking and the tracks. Wave to the drivers..."howyas lads"...
I suppose the photo could have been better.. however, it's alright.

Further to Reply 84, I decided to supply a successful photo after all...with the sixth plant added to make two groups of three.  And in flower too...

And the succulent down by the station isn't looking too bad either. Quite pleased how it's survived...check it out...

I don't know what it is about Waterways Ireland. They love weeds, but don't like flowers.  I often wonder can they tell the difference. Or do they care????

This is a few weeks ago....

it's not just a way of introducing my new runners to y'all!!!! ;)
but everything has been weedwhacked away.  The hyacinths on the "Simply Marbelous" thread are up and out of the ground. The ones here would have been too...pity...

Well things have progressed in the last three months. Even since the photos below, have been taken...

Everlasting sweetpea are making a bid to escape the area!

and the hollyhock are up and out of the ground with buds ready to open. I visited the area yesterday. I must replace the protective canes that I had last year to prevent the weed whackers...

So, a friend, Peadar made a donation to the cause of a few cabbages and lettuce seedlings. I am not altogether sure he knew he was making a donation to the guerrilla gardening cause, but after hanging with the Articultores crowd last summer, I thought I'd make an effort at growing veg as guerrilla garden plants.

~Two cabbages flanked by two marigolds...

a lettuce and a marigold....

a lettuce by itself...

a pair of cabbage seedlings. They were so fragile I decided to put them together for support...

And the crocosmia were starting to blossom aswell...
this was the first to show...

then a few more showed their true colours. I had no idea what colour they were going to be, as they'd been donated. Well, either red or orange, I suppose....

and I added some unloved and unwanted marigolds (even more, I know!)

Okay, enough happy clappy good news.

The cabbages were taken, and everything else, bar the  crocosmia was poisoned. In the photo below the bigger of the two cabbages was where the bottle cap is. The marigold is struggling and finally gave up the ghost a couple of days later... :'(

yeah, I'm very happy the way these have turned out. They were kind of 'leftover' from another project* and abandoned. So, I salvaged them and put them in here, not sure if they'd survive. (they were really tiny)  Not only survived, but flourished. I must go and see if I've any photos of them "before", y'know?

Right,

the last photo in Reply 48 here,
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/DSC01140.jpg)

Decided to have another go at doing something here.
The ground is very hard, very heavy and needed something to lighten it up, some organic matter.  Luckily people just dump the contents of window boxes on public land for you to eh, borrow!
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/C1_zpsb48c69dc.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/C1_zpsb48c69dc.jpg.html)

Let the train take the strain.  Too heavy to carry into position!

you can tell it's an old pic, them's daffs going over!

(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c1_zpsc2c9db1d.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c1_zpsc2c9db1d.jpg.html)

Fast forward several months. I had some leftover marigold, a sunflower seedling and sundries from the Rialto Men's Group. So, rather than let them go to waste, I stuck them in here....
Anyway, always good to dig out a dandelion!
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c4_zpsac609963.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c4_zpsac609963.jpg.html)
I put a bit of wood over the other dug-over soil to stop the hardcore gravel going into it...
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c5_zps219776c0.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c5_zps219776c0.jpg.html)
See the dandelion hangin'????
I was up in Tallaght and there are two stainless steel flower boxes near the Luas station, outside Red Rua caf? and the Civic theatre. And I saw something that would otherwise be wasted. So, I eh, requisitioned it for a better cause.
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c6_zps6d7ce7fe.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c6_zps6d7ce7fe.jpg.html)
at least  the potting compost around the roots will improve drainage in the heavy clay soil here...
mix it all up.  There's a banana skin in there too!
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c7_zps9c92ee84.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/c7_zps9c92ee84.jpg.html)
A tip, you may find your local US multinational plc coffee shop is giving away for free, gratis and for nothing...coffee grinds to help in your garden. It's all organic matter, why not?
(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/WP_0007242_zpse77c6015.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/WP_0007242_zpse77c6015.jpg.html)

Well, nobody took the opportunity to post the 100th post on  this thread, so I gave up and will do it myself!
It's been a while, so there's a bit of catching up to do.

There were 50 daffs for five euro on sale in Tesco so I bought a bundle.  There are seven spaces in the cycle park area - so seven per space and one left over. It was soft, so unusable.

(http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p305/Kristine518/guerrillagardeningdotorg/WP_0007712_zps265616ee.jpg) (http://s131.photobucket.com/user/Kristine518/media/guerrillagardeningdotorg/WP_0007712_zps265616ee.jpg.html)

And here is the dug-over soil from the front, plus one of the wild garlic I transplanted several months ago. Looks like it might take.  So long as the weedwhacking poisoners give it a chance....  :-\

Well, I don't go round the old haunts as much as I used to. Circumstances change, and all that. Mostly it's to do with not having a dog anymore. But I noticed this last week or so....and it put a temporary pep in my step...

ok, I think I mentioned it originally, I don't go up too far in that direction but for Reply #72 I passed up by there recently and noticed the hyacinths in situ.  Hyacinths are rapidly becoming my latest favourite flower...we'll see...

Anyway, the apartments are finished and complete. But there is some wrangling about planning or other and noone has moved in. For shame!!!

Well,
this recent photo is a puzzle. I don't know why or how but most of the crocosmia have not reappeared this year.  The ones that haven't survived were planted earlier than the ones that did. I don't know if that's why. Looks odd. Looks like they were poisoned as there is no evidence of flowers there at all, not just stunted growth.  And no holes to signify they'd been dug out.

Anyone any ideas?

Well the  flowers on the bank got butchered again this year by Waterways Ireland.  But I passed by yesterday evening looking at the sunset and took these two photos. One yellow hollyhock survived....

It's been too long.  Must be time for an update, n'est pas?

After a recent hard pruning, it's recovered nicely.

From the first post, some margarites have self-seeded onto the path.

Yeah, but the good news didn't last, eh!

Very soon after, this happened.

it was poisoned away. But all these weeds were not.

you have to wonder at their logic, or competence...

I've been so busy with work and that, I didn't get round to a lot of stuff last year. In fact, these are last year's sweetpeas. hopefully they'l thrive

The one on the left looks very healthy. Poisoners come along around the middle of June. With a bit of luck, these'll last till then.

Cleared out a bit of litter from the former #primaveraverdi bulbs. Just because they've gone over, doesn't mean they can't be looked after, na?
